MEET THE 2021 DESIGNERS OF THE YEAR
Every year, a handful of internationally acclaimed design awards nominate their ‘Designer of The Year’ – an individual or group whose contribution to the good design has been outstanding over the course of the previous twelve months. Stellar Works is truly honoured to have worked with some of these talented creatives, who have contributed to the success of our brand.
Neri&Hu, The Frame Awards 2021
The Frame Awards is one of the most acclaimed prizes in the design industry. Amongst the numerous categories, the Lifetime Achievement Awards honours a designer who has been visionary in their field, one who sets the precedent for innovation in the industry. For their constantly outstanding contributions to the design community, Neri&Hu have been awarded their first Lifetime Achievement Award from Frame Awards this year. The design duo is greatly adept at the varied disciplines of furniture, interior design, branding, graphics and architecture, they emphasize the design core of user-centric and open to multiple manifestations of aesthetics.
As Stellar Works’s creative directors, Neri&Hu are committed to building an international cross-sector portfolio of excellent quality, giving a deep insight of context, history, and contemporary culture. They have designed numerous collections for Stellar Works as well as overseeing the coherency of the product portfolio, contributing to the creation of our brand’s image.
Sebastian Herkner, Elle Decoration International Design Awards 2021
Elle Decoration International Design Awards (EDIDA) are deemed as the Oscars of design. It is a unique global award where the editors-in-chief of all of the Elle Decorations worldwide gather to award excellence in design across 15 categories. This year, Sebastian Herkner was awarded ‘Designer of The Year’ for his ability to combine new technologies with traditional craftsmanship to highlight the multifaceted beauty of the materials and draw renewed attention to small details.
Earlier this year, Herkner collaborated with Stellar Works to develop Host, a moveable wardrobe that responded to the need for flexible furniture in both hospitality and residential spaces. Composed of a metal frame, the Host wardrobe features an open shelf and a large mirror.
OEO Studio, Bo Bedre, Designer of The Year 2021
Every year, Nordic publications Bo Bedre, Bolig Magasinet, Scandinavian Living and Costume Living gather together to pay tribute to the best designers of the last 12 months. For the 2021 edition, Copenhagen-based OEO Studio was awarded 'Designers of the Year'. OEO Studio is renowned for their compelling minimalism, which is expressed through an intuitive yet methodical design approach, an inner sense of necessity and enduring quality, and a sensibility to work with materiality and textures through contrast and with meticulous attention to details.
Anne-Marie Buemann and Thomas Lykke, Co-Founders of OEO Studio, have been working with Stellar Works since its inception in 2012, and they designed some of the brand’s first collections, including Laval and SW. More recently, they designed Mun – a lighting collection inspired my analogic experiences – and the modular storage system Seiton.
